CAPTAIN ON THIS MONTH'S MOJO MAGAZINE COVERMOUNT CD

The March issue of MOJO (available in Feb) will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of the release of Syd Barrett's 'Madcap Laughs'. The issue will have an in-depth feature on the album and Syd's colleague David Gilmour will be giving his personal account of its recording.
As a well know Syd aficionado Cap has been invited to rework one of the Madcap tracks for the magazines free CD which contains covers of the whole record and he is particularly pleased to be on the CD with his old songwriting partner ('Brenda', 'Hard To Believe I'm Not') Robyn Hitchcock. The track list goes something like this:

Captain has spoken in interviews about the Syd Barrett song 'See Emily Play', saying it had a dramatic effect on him - awakening a strong passion for melodic, psychedelic music which he has maintained to the present day.
The closing track on the latest Damned album 'Dark Asteroid' is a tribute to Syd Barrett and ends in a tripped out free for all lasting over 10 minutes, the recording of which was aided and abetted by some delicious cakes cooked by chef for the evening Pinch.
Octopus was recorded by Captain especially for Mojo with help from his friends Eric Woods (the Whizz Kids), Simon Williams (Mandragora), Dave Berk (Johnny Moped) and Monty Oxymoron (the Damned). |
